Is your child struggling to turn their head to both sides equally? Does your child have an issue with their head shape?

Torticollis is a condition where a baby’s head tilts or turns more strongly to one side than the other. Plagiocephaly is also known as flat-head syndrome.  It is an asymmetry of baby's head.  Both of these conditions are fairly common in newborns and infants—and very treatable.

Early treatment is especially important, as it leads to the best outcomes. Physical therapy helps restore balance and symmetry in your baby’s body, allowing them to move more comfortably and evenly. As your baby’s movement becomes more balanced, overall function improves, and head shape typically corrects as well.

If you think your baby may have torticollis or plagiocephaly, we recommend getting a physical therapy evaluation by 1-2 months of age.  Early intervention will increase the likelihood of more speedy correction and help prevent the need for a plagiocephaly helmet.

Is your child walking on their toes?

It’s actually very normal for children to go up on their toes during play or when reaching for something overhead. Many kids use toe walking as part of pretend play or exploration.

However, if your child spends more than half of their walking time on their toes, it may be a sign that extra support is needed. At Abilibee Therapy, we offer a specialized toe walking program designed to empower parents and caregivers with simple, effective strategies to help improve walking patterns, reduce discomfort, and support healthy development.

Early intervention makes a big difference. If your child is mostly on their toes before they start walking on their own—or if they continue toe walking more than 50% of the time for several months after becoming an independent walker—it’s a good idea to seek a physical therapy evaluation. The good news is that there are many straightforward ways to address toe walking and support your child’s progress.
